Säckpipa

Spelpipa

Säckpipa was used in Sweden hundreds of years ago - the many surviving wall paintings in Churches support this. Unfortunately, not much is known about the playing tradition. Information has been pieced together by a small number of fans, like Per Ulf Allmo (Säckpipan i Norden) and Per Gudmundson, musician.

Spelpipa is another tradition that goes back very far, and was used "more for amusement than anything else", according to the Caprice CD called Lockrop & Vallåtar.

Säckpipa made by Alban Faust (1999) Mellerud, Sweden.
Spelpipa made by Lars Erik Andersson of Evertsberg.
